Visit Costa Rica’s first National Marine Park developed to protect this area, the “most tropical” in the country. Cahuita National Park was established in 1970 to protect a large coral reef off the Caribbean coast. Unfortunately, the reef is struggling for survival. Learn about the history of the first permanent settlement on the Caribbean Coast by the turtle fishermen, the medicinal and edible plants still used by the descendants of those fishermen today, other native flora, and a myriad of animals you’ll see along this scenic trail. If you’re on a search for monkeys, Cahuita is your best bet. Add snorkeling to your day if the sea is calm and clear enough, for an unforgettable adventure.
